A move is a chain of small tasks. Spread them over eight weeks and moving day leaves time for the essentials: carrying boxes and ordering pizza.

Eight weeks before

  • Check the notice period in your old lease and give notice in writing.
  • Sign the new lease and sort the deposit – with a Swisscautionen24 certificate you don't need to block an account.
  • Get quotes from movers or book friends and a van.

Six weeks before

  • Declutter: anything you haven't used for a year goes.
  • Get boxes, tape and markers.
  • Move electricity, internet and insurance to the new address.

Four weeks before

  • Set up mail forwarding.
  • Report the change of address to bank, employer, health insurer and municipality.
  • Pack the first boxes: books, seasonal clothes, decor.

Two weeks before

  • Arrange handover appointments for the old and new flat.
  • Do small repairs in the old flat.
  • Eat the fridge empty.

The last days

  • Pack a survival box: coffee, chargers, tools, toilet paper.
  • Organise the final clean or do it yourself.
  • Photograph meter readings.

And after the move? Tell us your new address under 'Report a move' so the certificate is transferred to the new flat.
